Directions for the FSU Planetarium and Observatory

The Observatory and Planetarium are both in the Lyons Science Building. The Observatory is on the 4th floor and the Planetarium is on the ground floor at the north end of the building. Here is a campus map.

You may park cars in Lot R (if there is space) which is adjacent to the Lyons Science Building. . If Lot R is full, Lot C-1 almost always space and is not much further away - see directions under bus parking below. If you are unfamiliar with the FSU campus, we suggest that, you bring a printed copy of our campus map with you when you come.

Unloading Students from a Bus

You should load and unload students from your bus at the south end of the Lyons Science Building on W.T.Brown Drive (see the campus map). W.T.Brown Drive begins at the main campus entrance on Murchison Rd. It passes between the Lyons Science Building and parking Lot R-1.

It is best to face west to unload (so your students don't need to cross Brown Drive). Thus it is recommended that you enter campus from Murchison Rd. onto Edgecombe Ave. (by the Bronco Statue, a block south of the W.T.Brown St. entrance). After several hundred feet, turn left on to Student Ave. After one block, make a gentle right at the stop sign on to Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. After one more block, turn left at the stop sign onto W.T.Brown Drive. Proceed about 100 feet to the building entrance, pulling up to the curb to unload.

Parking a Bus on Campus

The closest place to park a bus is the south end of Lot C-1 (see the campus map). To get there, go east from Lyons Science on W.T.Brown Drive. Cross Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., and then cross the railroad tracks. A few dozen feet beyond the tracks, turn right at a stop sign on to Eldridge Drive and enter Lot C-1. Go about 100 yards to the end of the lot and park on the right.

If you arrive in the middle of the day when classes are in session, it is possible that Lot C-1 will be full. Other possibilities for parking a bus are: Lot N (alongside Murchison Rd. south of Seabrook Auditorium), Lot S (north of the Capel Arena), and the shoulder of Langdon St. near its intersection with Edgecombe Ave. (see the campus map).
